Electric Blue Acara Care Guide – Stunning Cichlids for Community Tanks

The Electric Blue Acara (Andinoacara pulcher) is a stunning freshwater fish with neon blue metallic scales that shimmer under aquarium lighting. With an average size of 5–6 inches, they combine the looks of a show fish with the behavior of a community fish—rare among cichlids.

They are hardy and adjust well to most well-maintained aquariums in Pakistan.

Tank Setup:

A minimum 40-gallon tank is recommended for adult pairs or small groups. Acaras enjoy planted tanks with driftwood, rocks, and caves. Use fine gravel or sand substrate. They are relatively peaceful but may become territorial during breeding.

• Ideal tank mates: Silver Dollars, Severums, Rainbowfish, Corydoras, and larger Tetras.

Feeding:  Electric Blue Acaras are omnivores. Feed them a varied diet of high-quality pellets, frozen bloodworms, brine shrimp, and vegetables like peas or spinach. Their vibrant color intensifies with proper nutrition.

Breeding: Easy to breed in home aquariums. A bonded pair will choose a flat surface for egg laying and guard their fry. Keep other fish away from the breeding zone to reduce stress.

Compatibility: Unlike many cichlids, Electric Blue Acaras are calmer and suitable for semi-aggressive or large peaceful tanks. Avoid small fin-nipping species or overly aggressive tank mates like Mbuna cichlids.
