The Balloon Molly (Poecilia sphencopterus) is a small, round-bodied fish with a unique balloon-like shape, making them an eye-catching addition to any aquarium. They come in a variety of colors, including orange, black, and silver, often with a shimmering metallic finish. They are active swimmers and grow to about 3–4 inches (7–10 cm).

Use gentle filtration to keep the water quality high and avoid strong currents. Balloon Mollies are social fish and should be kept in schools of 3 or more.

Feeding:

Balloon Mollies are omnivores and enjoy a varied diet. They will happily eat flakes, pellets, live/frozen bloodworms, brine shrimp, and blanched vegetables like spinach and zucchini. A balanced diet helps them maintain their vibrant colors and health.

Breeding:

Balloon Mollies are livebearers, meaning they give birth to live young rather than laying eggs. To breed them, maintain a male to female ratio of 1:2. The fry are tiny but grow quickly, and it’s best to provide hiding spots for the young to avoid predation by the adults.

Compatibility:

Balloon Mollies are peaceful and get along well with other non-aggressive species like tetras, guppies, and Corydoras. However, they can be territorial with other mollies in small tanks, so it’s best to keep them in larger setups with plenty of space.
