Red Platy Fish are small, active freshwater fish known for their intense red coloration and rounded bodies. They typically grow to about 2–2.5 inches and look stunning in planted tanks, especially when contrasted with green plants or dark substrates.

Tank Setup:

A minimum tank size of 10 gallons is ideal for a small group. They thrive in planted aquariums with live plants, hiding spots, and moderate water flow. Red Platies are peaceful and pair well with other community fish like guppies, mollies, and tetras.

Feeding: These omnivorous fish are not picky eaters. Offer a balanced diet of high-quality flakes, micro pellets, frozen bloodworms, daphnia, and blanched vegetables like spinach or zucchini.

Breeding (Livebearers): Red Platy Fish are livebearers, meaning they give birth to free-swimming fry rather than laying eggs. They breed easily in community tanks, often without any special intervention. Female Platies can give birth to 20–50 fry every 3–5 weeks. Provide floating plants or dense cover like Java Moss to protect the fry from adult fish.
